Emotionally intense moments leave a stamp on a place, as well as on objects connected with them. You can sometimes sense them, seeing reenactments of the incidents, when you visit a place where a battle once occurred, or when you hold a watch worn by someone who died while wearing it. Sometimes you can even get a sense of emotionally intense events that are happening to someone at the same time, if you are holding something that is attuned to them, even if the person is far away.
The possible emotional intensity of the visions gained by this ability makes it easy to see why it would be repressed by a child who suddenly Saw more than he or she could handle.
